Le Hohwald, Alsace: The Gem of the Vosges
To be experienced in summer and winter alike...
A small mountain village nestling in the heart of a clearing, sheltered from the wind and surrounded by forests of pine and beech trees over a hundred years old, Le Hohwald boasts clean air, beautiful scenery and a mild climate. Nature lovers will find plenty of hiking trails here: no fewer than 120 km of signposted paths maintained by the Vosgian Club, the GR5 and the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela. (We can provide you with a free brochure of some of these walks).?This is an easy way to reach the magnificent Hohwald waterfall in the heart of the forest at 700m altitude. 8km away, the Neuntelstein, a granite rock overlooking the mountain range to the north of the Andlau valley, offers a superb panoramic view of the Alsace plain, the Black Forest, the Alps, Mont Saint-Odile, the spiritual centre of Alsace, and the Spesbourg castle in Andlau.
The nearby Champ du Feu ski resort, the highest point in the Bas-Rhin at 1098m, offers a host of outdoor activities all year round.?In winter, in a picture-postcard setting, you can ski the 13 runs, explore the 88km of Nordic ski trails, go snowshoeing or try out the ‘tubing’ sledge run.
In summer, enjoy accrobranche (tree climbing), paragliding, horse riding and climbing, mountain biking and cycling (electric bikes can be hired from Andlau ML Bikes, 1 km from the hotel).?Alsace is also, of course, the Wine Route, with its vineyards as far as the eye can see in the Barr region, an opportunity to visit the cellars and taste the region's renowned wines.?Take the opportunity to discover the charm of the many villages with their colourful houses and flowers. Mittelbergheim is particularly worth a visit, as is Andlau with its Seigneurie and Gertwiller with its Gingerbread Palace.
History buffs won't want to miss a visit to the Struthof memorial, the only concentration camp set up by the Nazis on French territory, in Natzweiler.
A 10-minute drive from La Petite Auberge is the Alsace Aventure park at the Col du Kreuzweg. In a sumptuous setting, a host of activities await you, especially with your children or friends... Including tree climbing, skydiving, zip-lining, electric scooters, laser games, paintball…
From November onwards, Alsace is the scene of many Christmas markets, a magical time to be enjoyed by all the family!
As you'll see, our hotel's privileged location makes it easy to reach Colmar and Strasbourg within a 50km radius, as well as Europa Park and Rulentica in Germany.
